Modern community ruleset (Duodecim 22-1)

The most detailed ruleset published by the Discord community, used for the 2022 tournament series. It is the reference for modern competitive play.

• The in-game “Official” setting is mandatory (EX-centric, BRV-centric and none rulesets are forbidden).
• Characters: all allowed except Feral Chaos.
• Level 100 equipment. Hacked accessories/weapons (memory editing, cheat codes), Rebellious Soul and breakable accessories are forbidden. The CP glitch is allowed.
• Summons: the four counter summons only (Barbariccia, Scarmiglione, Cagnazzo, Rubicante), and optional at that.
• Assists: all allowed, except the assist of your own character (Jecht + Jecht assist is forbidden).
• Chase: one hit per chase; starting another chase afterwards is permitted provided no attack is used in it (assist follow-ups remain permitted).
• Infinites forbidden: repeatable loops are limited to two repetitions, continuous infinites (Sephiroth's Hell's Gate glitch) to one real-time second.
• Stages: 5 starter stages (World of Darkness, Lunar Subterrane, Order's Sanctuary, Sky Fortress Bahamut, Pandaemonium Top Floor) with 1-2-1 stage striking in the first match; after that, all normal stages except The Rift, Phantom Train and the Omega variants.
• Counterpick: blind character picks in the first match; the winner bans two stages and announces their character, the loser picks stage and character. “Dave's stupid rule”: you cannot pick a stage again if you have already won on it in the set.
• Third-party programs (macros, memory editing) are forbidden; in a dispute, replays and screenshots are the evidence, and the match is replayed identically.

Japan Ranked

The Japanese community's ruleset, designed as a permanent ladder: a reduced stage selection, a fixed equipment loadout and almost every extra ability forbidden. No gauge depletion, and a heavy premium on characters who convert their combos into bravery and EX through assists — Garland, Sephiroth, Lightning and Gilgamesh thrive there.

• All characters allowed, Feral Chaos included — who is not permitted to unlock the EX and assist gauges.
• Extra abilities: only Precision Jump, Precision Block, Precision Evasion and Lightning's Reverse Paradigm.
• Summons forbidden.
• Stages: World of Darkness, Lunar Subterrane, Order's Sanctuary and Sky Fortress Bahamut.
• Fixed equipment: the level 60 set with the “Imp's Blessing” bonus (EX Intake Range +15 m) — Impartisan, Tortoise Shield, Saucer, Reed Cloak, and the ten set accessories (Power Ring, Hyper Ring, Muscle Belt, Earring, Large Gap in HP, Green Drop, Red Gem, Green Gem, White Gem, Tenacious Attacker). Resulting stats: 10009 HP, 450 CP, 957 BRV, Max Booster ×1.5.

2017 Tournament Rules and Modern Alternate Rules

Two other rulesets circulate in the community: the “2017 Tournament Rules”, the basis of the circuit the site's reference tier list comes from, and the “Modern Alternate Rules”. Their full texts lived on wiki pages and the Discord bot; the pages were not archived, but saves holding sample builds compliant with each are on the Savedata page.

Recent evolutions (2024-2026)

Recent tournaments start from the modern ruleset and adjust it edition by edition. Observed trends: Feral Chaos readmitted but deprived of EX and assist (DISSent Folk) where he had been banned; repetition infinites loosened from two to three loops; Dream's End joining the banned stages; the gentlemen's clause becoming formal (a public agreement in the tournament thread); and the 2026 editions banning the MS Prima accessory and assist gauge depletion. The “012 Ranked” variant of April 2024 shows the other route: the Japan Ranked loadout with Dismay Shock in place of Green Drop to reintroduce slight EX gauge depletion, and mandatory counter summons.

Day to Die

The 2026 editions' ruleset: no infinites (one repetition), no summons, no multi-hit chase, Bonecrusher/Rebellious Soul and Feral Chaos banned, assist gauge depletion forbidden, MS Prima banned (new), and no Dave's Stupid Rule. Banned stages: Phantom Train, The Rift, Orphan's Cradle, Ultimecia's Castle, Crystal Tower, the Omegas. WheelzZzzz won undefeated — 3-1 in the grand final against Pastulio814, who came out of the losers' bracket over Mako_Tsunami. The Challonge bracket stayed showing as “in progress”, the organiser not having formally closed it, but every match was played.

Date With Death — Beginner's Only tournament

The same ruleset base as Day to Die (without the MS Prima ban). Match windows extendable from one to three days depending on schedules; stage picked first, blind character picks sent privately to an organiser. Xavier won without dropping a set.

A notable ruleset: Feral Chaos allowed but deprived of EX and assist; repetition infinites limited to three loops; Dream's End added to the banned stages; the gentlemen's clause made formal (a public agreement in the Discord thread). PPSSPP 1.19.3, CP glitch allowed. WheelZ won every one of his sets (6-0).

Japan Ranked modified: the Imp's Blessing loadout with Dismay Shock in place of Green Drop — slight EX gauge depletion reintroduced —, mandatory counter summons, and a widened first-stage selection (including Edge of Madness and Crystal World).
